What is being claimed?
Fire resistance, water resistance, lock features, construction, and burglary resistance are separate claims. Identify which one you are actually reading.
READ CLAIMS CAREFULLY
A rating, certification, or “tested” label is only useful when you know exactly what it covers. Read the claim as a narrow statement, not as proof that a safe solves every risk.
THE FIVE-QUESTION CLAIM READER
Fire resistance, water resistance, lock features, construction, and burglary resistance are separate claims. Identify which one you are actually reading.
Prefer a named source and product documentation over broad marketing wording. Save the model number so you can check the exact version later.
Look for duration, temperature, depth, test context, exclusions, and the type of contents covered. Those details are part of the claim.
A document-focused fire claim may be useful for records but does not automatically make the safe right for higher-value theft targets.
Use the same questions for every product. Do not compare one product’s detailed statement against another product’s vague label.
| Category | What it can help you assess | What it does not prove by itself |
|---|---|---|
| Fire protection statement | Whether a product states a time- and condition-specific heat-protection claim. | Burglary resistance, water resistance, or suitability for every type of stored item. |
| Water-resistance statement | Whether a product states protection against water under defined conditions. | Fire performance, theft resistance, or safe placement in a damp location. |
| Security features | Lock type, bolts, hinges, construction details, and anchoring capability. | An independently verified burglary rating or effective installation in your home. |
| Capacity and dimensions | Whether your items can physically fit when compared with usable interior measurements. | Protection performance or practical delivery through your home. |
We identify model-specific specifications from a named manufacturer or other primary source wherever possible.
We explain who a category or product may suit, while keeping that judgment separate from the published specifications.
We do not claim first-hand testing, certifications, availability, or performance that we cannot substantiate.
Write down the exact model, the claim, its stated conditions, interior size, lock, and installation requirements. That gives you a real shortlist instead of a collection of labels.
